The prospect of pike fishing at Chew Valley Lake is a mouth watering one for any pike angler. Fish over 30lbs are regularly caught with the Lake record being a magnificent fish of 38lb 8oz.
Pike Fishing Restrictions
2006 will the usual autumn fishing in October and November. It is necessary to book well in advance as demand will be very high. There will be restrictions on the areas available for pike fishing from both boat and bank. The restrictions are shown on the map above.

Pike Fishing Rules
Fishing is by spinning with plugs, spoons or lures (minimum length 4 inches) and by dead baiting with saltwater fish only. NO FRESHWATER FISH INCLUDING LAMPREY OR EELS TO BE BROUGHT TO THE WATER. A minimum breaking strain main line of 15lbs must be used with a wire trace of not less than 28lbs.
Fishermen may use up to two rods which must not be left unattended. A return of fish caught should be sent within three days of fishing All other Bristol Water rules & regulations must be obeyed Fishing close to the margins is usually the best way to catch but as the water temperature falls the fish may well move into deeper areas.
Drifting whilst fishing with spinners and plug along the reed beds will produce plenty of fish of all sizes but the chances are that dead baits will produce the bigger fish. Anchoring with static baits in deeper channels or in the shallows will be a popular way to fish. But drifting with a trolled fish or casting with a sink and draw retrieve is almost bound to be the most successful method.
The areas which had the best fishing last year were Herriots and Stratford, Nunnery Point, and Villice and Heron's Green Bays.
