  The Barrow Tanks
The Barrow tanks consist of three lakes ranging in size from 60 acres to 25 acres. The three 'concrete bowl' type reservoirs are large enough to feel like a real challenge but not so big that they become intimidating. This makes them perfect waters for the angler wanting to learn the skills, flies and methods for fishing the larger Bristol waters such as Chew and Blagdon. More experienced anglers will still enjoy excellent fishing and challenges to their skills.
The three tanks provide, arguably, the best bank fishing of all the Bristol Water fisheries with free rising fish in waters that are usually crystal clear. The clarity of the water makes fishing with small nymphs and dries the more successful method.
The variation of bank fishing is second to none. The gentle sloping natural banks on the south-east shores of Numbers 1 and 2 provide excellent dry fly fishing from April to September. Other areas of the lakes give access to very deep water close to the shore. The stoney banks on all the tanks provide perfect sedge holding areas giving exciting sport to nymphs fished slowly near the bottom and dries during the evening rises. The inlet flows on all the lakes are always holding places for larger concentrations of fish and are popular spots but be careful; Wading can be dangerous on the slippery stone bottoms and is not allowed. The deep drops off close to the banks are regularly patrolled by fish that are easily seen but often difficult to take. Try using a goldhead on a floating line twitched in front of them. The diversity of surroundings and methods are limitless and create an ideal fishery that will always have somewhere that is fishable in any wind. The regular Barrow fishermen are a friendly group who create a club like atmosphere and most are willing to share their information, especially with beginners.
